We are pleased to announce that Brigitte Portner joined MRD’s editorial team as Associate Editor at the beginning of June 2022. She succeeds Anne Zimmermann, who retired earlier this year. Brigitte will help to facilitate our upcoming new online discussion series, “MRD Talks,” and will oversee the peer review and revision of submissions to MRD’s MountainResearch section together with Sarah-Lan Mathez-Stiefel.

Brigitte currently works as Senior Research Scientist at the University of Bern’s Centre for Development and Environment and as Community and Development Officer at the Global Land Programme, a global research project of Future Earth. With her work, she aims to support creative and pluralistic learning spaces that enable people to connect and contribute to collective imaginaries and meaningful actions for a transforming world.

Brigitte’s research background is in development studies and land system science, and she has conducted extensive fieldwork in Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Mexico, and Switzerland, mostly in mountain contexts. She employs a wide range of trans- and interdisciplinary methods in her work and enjoys collaborating and networking across disciplinary and sectoral boundaries. She holds a PhD in Geography and Sustainable Development from the University of Bern. We’re delighted to have Brigitte on the team!
