MRD attaches great importance
to maintaining the acknowledged high standard of its research section. Coverage
ranges widely, from topics in natural science to anthropological and socio-economic
issues. The section features a choice selection of recent research on mountains.
Contributions have contemporary relevance and offer scientific insight into
development issues, as well as methodological innovations that include disciplinary
and transdisciplinary approaches. All papers in the research section are
peer-reviewed.
Papers are written by scholars from throughout the world
and cover all continents. Special efforts are made to encourage contributions
by authors from developing countries, without neglecting contributions
from industrialised countries. The editors will offer editorial assistance
to authors whose native language is not English.
Guidelines
for reviewers
General
- Manuscripts of all papers submitted to the editors
for publication in MRD's research section are sent to two independent
reviewers who have expertise in the subject discussed. Reviewers are
requested to assess the value of the present manuscript from a scholarly
and research point of view and to comment on the value of the work presented
in the manuscript. Manuscripts must be handled as confidential and protected
from distribution prior to publication.
Originality of manuscript
- MRD gives priority to original manuscripts that
have not been previously published or submitted to other journals. However,
MRD will accept papers and extracts of papers that have been
published recently in a language other than English. The editors will
also consider manuscripts which have been published elsewhere but have
been substantially re-written for publication in MRD.
Clarity of presentation
- The reviewers' task is to comment on the viability
of the work as a whole, the accuracy of the methods and results, the
originality, etc (see Manuscript Review Form). For many readers, English
is not the native language. It is therefore important that the papers
be written in a clear and concise style. Once a manuscript is approved
for publication by the reviewers, the editors will work on improving
its style and presentation, especially when authors' fluency in English
is not satisfactory.
Manuscript Review Form
- Reviewers are invited to complete the enclosed Manuscript
Review Form and to add comments on the Form or on separate sheets if
necessary. The review process is confidential, reviewers' names are
not disclosed unless explicitly requested by reviewers.
Deadline for review
- All research papers are submitted to preliminary review by the Editor-in-Chief. Once a paper is found acceptable for review, the Editorial Office contacts appropriate reviewers. Reviewers are then usually given four weeks to review a paper.
Editors
duties
After completion of the review process and acceptance of the paper, the Editorial Office will complete the copy editing. This includes checking through references and requesting authors to make the necessary corrections and formatting, improving presentation and style, correcting grammar and spelling if necessary, and ensuring quality of figures and tables for reproduction. Authors are asked to comply with a style sheet for references.
