Call for papers: Exploring the links between water, food, energy, and mountain ecosystems
The connections between food, water, and energy constitute a complex system that interacts with mountain ecosystems and factors of change. MRD is looking for papers that assess experiences of negotiating synergies and trade-offs among water, energy, and food; that analyze the dynamic interplay between these interconnected services and mountain ecosystems; or that offer agendas for future research or policy aiming at increasing the equitability and sustainability of trade-offs and synergies in mountain areas. Abstracts are due by 24 April 2017, full papers by 1 August 2017. Interested? Read the detailed call for papers here.

Important change in MRD's Editorial Team
Hans Hurni, MRD's Editor-in-Chief since 2000, the last 5 years together with David Molden, Director General of ICIMOD, has decided to step down after his retirement as a university professor. His duties as an Editor-in-Chief of MRD will be taken over by Thomas Breu, Director of CDE since 2013 and a well-versed researcher on sustainability issues in mountain areas. Read the editorial in Vol 37, No 1 for details.

Mountain Research and Development
fosters sustainable development in mountains by supporting peer-reviewed interdisciplinary, disciplinary, and transdisciplinary research on mountains, developing scientific capacity, capitalizing on development experiences, promoting policy dialogue, and strengthening networks within the mountain community.

Mountain Research and Development is published by the International Mountain Society (IMS). MRD receives significant funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA)—the operational unit of the Austrian Development Cooperation. Institutional members of the IMS make a substantial financial contribution. Friends of MRD also support the journal.

Mountain Research and Development is available online and open access in collaboration with www.bioone.org, and is indexed in the Science Citation Index, Journal Citation Reports® (Impact Factor for 2015: 0.911), Current Contents/Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences, GEOBASE, CAB Abstracts, AGRICOLA databases, Meteorological and Geoastrophysical Abstracts (MGA), CABS (Current Awareness in Biological Sciences), and others. The MRD Editorial Office supplies printready PDF files of individual articles or entire issues including covers for delocalized printing to Institutional Members of the IMS upon request.
